Kent Longbow Championship, 2008

The 2008 Kent Longbow Championship was the most successful for years, attracting a total of 96 entries. The final results and list of awards is now available here.

On a bright, chilly morning, the competition commenced. As expected, Stella Green of Thanet Archers and Hilary Talbot of Canterbury Archers were off to a good start and set the benchmark for the lady entrants, finishing in first and second positions respectively.

During the shoot, one of the ladies suffered a catastrophic bow failure, namely Mrs. Christine Bearman. Her bow fractured in two places, ending up resembling a take down bow!

It is worth mentioning, that one of the pleasures of shooting the Longbow Championships, is the break in shooting after 4 dozen arrows, to sample a wee dram of sherry!!!!!!!

The Gentlemen's competition was keenly contested between Neil Richardson and Geoff Barker of Allington Castle Archers, Grahame Andrews of Canterbury and Colin Jeffreys of Castle Moat and Folkestone Bowmen. When the final whistle blew Neil Richardson emerged as the 2008 Gentleman Champion.

Master Stephen Hagon of Gravesend Archers was the Junior Champion.

An enjoyable day was had by all involved and with the tournament going from success to success, we shall probably be looking for a new venue for the 2009 event, because this year's venue was at full capacity.
