WA 1440 Tournament

Introduction

This event was previously known as the Kent FITA Tournament.

It was originally held annually on the last Sunday in July, but because of difficulties finding a volunteer willing and able to organise it, for a number of years it was organised in conjunction with the county's Target Championship and held on the Saturday of the same weekend. After several years of very low participation, the tournament was dropped following the 2002 event.

After the KAA Operational Committee received several requests from members to consider holding the tournament once again, it is back for 2014 and will have UK and World Record and World Archery Star status for the 1440 rounds plus UK Record status only for the ArcheryGB Metric rounds.

Full details are available in the Association's Championships and Tournaments Policy and relevant information is also

d in the entry form.

Rounds

The event provides all of the World Archery 1440 Rounds and the ArcheryGB equivalents for the younger junior age-groups.

The following information is provided in good faith and for guidance only; it is subject to change without notice. Archers who wish to enter the event are advised to familiarise themselves with the appropriate ArcheryGB and World Archery regulations and with the content of the entry form.

Any archer who would like to compete for a World Record or for a World Archery Star award (at events that are recognised for those purposes by World Archery) must, as a minimum, shoot the round corresponding to their gender and age, but may choose to shoot a round involving longer distances.

World Archery definitions of age groups (as at April 2014):
Masterfrom the start of the year in which their 50th. birthday falls.
Seniorall who do not qualify as Master, Junior or Cadet.
Juniorup to the end of the year in which their 20th. birthday falls.
Cadetup to the end of the year in which their 17th. birthday falls.
Minimum rounds for a World Record or World Archery Star:

Alternatively, archers who do not wish to compete for a World Archery Star award (on occasions on which they are available) may shoot a round involving shorter distances. However to be eligible for a UK Record, they must, as a minimum, shoot the round corresponding to their gender and age (using the ArcheryGB age groups).

ArcheryGB definitions of age groups (as at April 2014):
Veteranfrom their 55th. birthday.
Seniorfrom their 18th. birthday.
Junior under 18up to the day before their 18th. birthday.
Junior under 16up to the day before their 16th. birthday.
Junior under 14up to the day before their 14th. birthday.
Junior under 12up to the day before their 12th. birthday.

It is important to note that ArcheryGB age groups are based on the archer's age on the day of competition; in cases where a single competition takes place over two or more consecutive days and the archer competes on every day, then the archer's age on the first day of competition determines their age group.

Minimum ArcheryGB 'Metric' round for a UK Record:

Archers are welcome to enter for a shorter round than is required by their gender and age for World Archery or ArcheryGB records or awards - this is especially to give less experienced archers the chance to take part and gain experience, even though they are not able to shoot the full distance. However, in most such cases awards will not be available to compete for.

Very occasionally the event has been reduced to a shorter round or even curtailed early because of weather conditions - when this happens all awards are still presented provided that some shooting has been possible, but are based on the shortened event.

Venues

In common with most county associations, the KAA does not own a permanent tournament ground and the tournament was too large to be readily accommodated at any of our club grounds. Over the years this tournament has been held at a number of locations in the county:

No trophies are currently provided by the Association. (Trophies previously associated with this event are not effectively documented and those currently held are in poor condition.)

Normally each trophy is accompanied by a medal, which the winner is entitled to keep in perpetuity; Medals will also be awarded where no trophy is provided in a category or where a trophy is shared between categories. Any team trophies are accompanied by a medal for each team member. Medals may also be awarded at the organiser's discretion for other achievements for which no trophy is provided.
