County Match - 07 June 2009
Many of the archers travelling to this match reported thunder, lightning and torrential rain on their route. Fortunately it passed Meopham well before the start and the rain that fell soaked into the previously dry ground and was largely unnoticeable by the start of shooting. The rest of the day was breezy with sunny intervals punctuated by just one short but heavy shower late in the morning.
The match was hosted by Gravesend Archers at their ground in Meopham and all of our thanks must go to the club members, who provided not just their ground and much of the work party, but also bacon sarnis at the start.
Unfortunately London lost several members of their team during the run-up to the match and were forced to withdraw, leaving Kent, Essex and Middlesex to battle it out.
While Kent scored wins in the Senior Compound and Longbow disciplines, Essex dominated the Senior Recurve. The Junior Recurve result was determined by handicap-adjusted score to allow for the considerable differences in the composition of the teams; on this basis, Kent scored a convincing win over Essex. Middlesex were only able to field teams in the Senior Recurve and Longbow, finishing in 3rd. and 2nd. place respectively.
Congratulations to all of our team members for contributing to a very solid overall performance.
