Definition:

The type of archery, as defined in the ArcheryGB Rules of Shooting (Parts 3, 4, 5 and 7).

The following disciplines only are recognised for county record purposes:

• Target Archery (Outdoors)
• Target Archery (Indoors)
• Field Archery
• Clout Archery

Only those disciplines, for which the KAA maintains records, are included. Although 'Longbow' is sometimes referred to as a discipline, it is in fact a Bow Style and can be found there.

Definition:

The bow style, as defined in the ArcheryGB Rules of Shooting (Part 2).

The following bow styles only are recognised for county record purposes:

Other types of bow, not listed here, might fall within the definition of one of the listed bow styles (e.g. a Mongolian Hunting Bow might qualify as Recurve Barebow); it is the archer's responsibility to check with a qualified judge, if they have any doubt.

CARE: not all bow styles are recognised or have county records available in all disciplines. The table above shows which bow styles are recognised for which discipline:

If you select a bow style that is only available for a limited number of disciplines, you might not need to select the discipline; if you select a bow style and an incompatible discipline, you will inevitably get no results!

Definition:

The archer's Para-Archery Classification at the time of shooting.

The following Para-Archery Classifications only are recognised for county records in each discipline:

Para-Archery Records are generally recognised for Juniors for each gender separately, but only in a single combined age group.

CARE: Para-Archery Classifications are not available in all disciplines or age groups.

Note that, by selecting 'All', you will be selecting both para-archery and able-bodied, i.e. including those with a para-archery classification of 'None'. By the same token, it is possible to select only able-bodied records, by selecting 'None' from the drop-down list.

Definition:

The terms, 'Ladies' and 'Gentlemen', are used irrespective of age.

Although it was customary at one time to maintain county records and to award champions for juniors in a combined category without any gender distinction, this is no longer the case and all earlier county records awarded in that way have been reassigned to the appropriate gender.

Definition:

Age groups relate to the age of the archer at the time of shooting - this might differ from their age group at the time the record was approved.

County records will only be approved for the archer's actual age group. For this purpose the age that is used is:

• the archer's age on the date that the round was shot;
• where a round takes place over two or more days and the archer enters and competes in the whole of that competition, their age on the first day of the competition.

Age groups are not inclusive of lower age groups, hence 'Under 18 Years' refers to juniors who are not yet 18 years of age, but who are above the qualifying age for the next lower age group ('Under 16 Years' or 'Under 15 Years', depending on discipline).

The following age groups only are recognised for county records in each discipline:

County records are not currently maintained for a 'Veteran' or 'Masters' age group.

Although county records are normally awarded separately to each age group recognised by ArcheryGB, in some disciplines county records are awarded on the basis of a single combined age group covering juniors of all ages. The 'Juniors (all ages)' option in the drop-down list refers only to this combined age group - it will not select all junior age groups in those disciplines in which separate age groups are recognised.

The age groups recognised by ArcheryGB differ according to discipline, so it is important to take care if you are selecting on both. ArcheryGB changed certain age groups in 2011 and the revise age groups were adopted by the KAA; where possible, existing records were reassigned to the revised age groups.

Records for juniors under 9 years of age were maintained until ArcheryGB changed the recognised age groups in 2011. When this happened all county records were reallocated to the appropriate new age groups, except for a small number that were also affected by a change to the composition of the Bristol 5 round; these were left in the Under 9 age group and marked as 'Closed' records.

Definition:

The round or distance for which the KAA maintains records; while most will be found in the ArcheryGB Rules of Shooting, local rounds may also occasionally be included (e.g. the "30m Winter Round (Frostbite)").

Because this is a database of records actually approved, rounds/distances will only be included if at least one record exists in the current records booklets.

Each round exists in only one discipline; because of this, if you select a round, there is no value in also selecting a discipline - if you select a single round, but an incompatible discipline, you will inevitably get no results.

Headings are included within the drop down list to make it clear which rounds belong to which discipline; within each discipline, rounds are shown in the same order as they appear in the records booklets.

Definition:

The total score that was shot for the round.

In the County Records Selection:

Enter a number from 1 to 2880 in both the 'from' and 'to' boxes. It is necessary to fill in both the start and the end value of the range; if you want to select only a single score value, then it must be entered as both the start and end of the range.

The lowest score that can be accepted as a record is '1' (you can't get a record for missing with every arrow); the highest is 2880 (a perfect score for a double WA1440 or Metric round). By using these as the start and end of the range, you will ensure that records are not excluded based on the score that was shot.

Definition:

The date on which the record score was completed.

Most rounds take place (and can only take place) on a single day, in which case that is the date that applies; however, where a round (or double round, if that is what the record relates to) legitimately takes place over two or more consecutive days, the applicable date is that on which the claimed score was completed.

All dates must be entered in the correct format "dd Mmm yyyy", but as soon as you place your cursor in the input box a calendar will pop up to help select the date and will automatically format it correctly.

The earliest date that can be accepted is '01 Jan 1953' (the approximate foundation date of the Association); the latest is two days before the current date. By using these as the start and end of the range, you will ensure that records are not excluded based on the date the round was shot.

It is necessary to fill in both the start and the end date of the range; if you want to specify only a single date, then it must be entered as both the start and end date.

Definition:

The date of the KAA committee meeting at which the record was approved.

Although the county Records Officer will check each claim and reject any that cannot qualify or request further information to support a claim, the county Records Officer cannot approve new records - he/she can only recommend to the KAA Operational Committee that they approve them. It is then the committee that approves the records at the first practical opportunity.

The name used when a record is approved will not be changed if the archer subsequently changes their name.

The list of available names only includes record holders (past and present) - not every member! Although the names are shown in the same format as they appear in the records books, they are sorted by surname and then by initials.

Note: the name recorded at the time a record is approved will not be changed if the record-holder subsequently changes any part of their name or their title. Changes of name or title might therefore make it difficult or impossible to readily identify all records held by an individual.

Definition:

The name of the archer's primary club at the time of shooting.

The club name recorded when a record is approved will not be changed if the archer subsequently moves to a new club.

The list of available club names only includes those of record holders (past and present) - not every club! The club names are sorted alphabetically.

Note: even if the archer has received dispensation from their primary club to represent a different club at a tournament, county records will always show the primary club.
